OP's comments on Neil's answer appear to tell us that we should be reading these Us as "ewes". It seems clear from the hints that the first-in-list position is meant to signify TOP. Why it made the cut: Amazon’s newest Kindle Oasis eReader is the best eReader overall because it adds even more lighting options for a variety of color temperatures and displays crisp text on a big screen ideal for tired and weary eyes. Do you want an eReader with a clean, simple interface? Do you want an eReader with a lot of file options? Do you want an eReader for teens or younger children? One of the below eReaders should check all your boxes so you can spend more time reading and less time searching the internet for the best eReaders. The best eReaders: Reviews & Recommendationsīut with so many eReaders on the market, it can be difficult to find the device that suits your needs and your reading habits. Devices over $250 must have something special to offer (like a color display), or why spend the money? And devices less than $70 seem sketchy from the start and will likely crash regularly. If we hit a roadblock and had to click the “help” function to figure out what to do, it was a big red flag for casual readers. We ran through the eReader menus, checking for speed and intuitiveness. An eReader must be as easy to see as it is to navigate, and generic budget-priced eReaders are notoriously clunky with interfaces that look more like a calculator screen than a soothing, inviting digital library. Most eReaders on the market offer similar stats for battery life and storage space, so we focused on the factors that separate the readers-namely screen lights, screen size, and file options. These devices are designed for easy reading, and the best of the bunch must have an impressive, crisp look as close to analog ink and paper text as possible. Taking a critical look at eReaders starts with display clarity. We’ve felt the sting of tired eyes and are glad to leave the world of papercuts behind. The writers and editors working on this article have spent thousands of hours reading on paper books and electronic devices.
I haven't tested whether they all work yet so will repost to confirm hopefully this will help anyone else suffering from the same frustrating problem. Ive used Safari to download the soundsets manually as when the connection breaks I can just get it to restart and complete the download. 80s grocery store music, Amazon music stuck on one song. I'm going to try and drop the files into a new project in Sonar before I bin the lot and re-record the guitars tomorrow, but I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this in S1? I'd appreciate any advice on this please - Cheers - G.Okay I think I've solved the problem. In Studio One, transposing and tuning are a part of the same set of advanced algorithms as timestretching, so the quality is extremely high. soundsets that I downloaded are located and I leave the destination as the default and choose full installation. the files were still way out of sync with the vocal and ref track. The only time I managed to get them working again was to create a brand new Song file (blank) and then drag the individual rogue files into it. In 1965, the band briefly recorded for the Canadian division of Columbia Records, releasing a single, Mynah Bird Hop/Mynah Bird Song. I then created a brand new audio track and dragged one of the files in. I tried to duplicate the track with all settings, this didn't work. they were simply hidden previously and then switched back on in the Track List. I did a bit of digging and found a couple of posts about issues when tracks are bounced, but this wasn't the case with these. I compared an audio track which does play and the rogue one, and made sure they were exactly the same, but still no joy. The audio is there and plays quite happily when I tested it in the Pool location, but try as I might I couldn't get it to play in the Track view. On 'unhiding' them, three of them will not play. I'd saved the file with around four guitar tracks hidden in Studio One V3. I came across this issue today on coming back to a project I haven't worked on for a few months. Size 10 aggressive skates, Pretty woman end song, The summer i turned pretty. Hi.apologies in advance for the long post! The tread pattern of the Chupacabra sits somewhere between a Bontrager XR2 and XR3 which we found struck an excellent balance between rolling efficiency, sidewall stability and traction. Check out the scraping above the Bontrager logo- that’s some sturdy sidewall protection! We know this because with a 3” tyre you’ll be scraping the sidewalls of the tyre against lots of stuff on the trail, but despite this, the Chupacabra remained intact throughout the review. The result of the project was the Bontrager Chupacabra, a 3” tyre that weighs just 860 grams! Despite the light weight, the Chupacabra is tubeless ready, and the sidewall protection was high. We were lucky to chat with Trek’s Travis Brown where we discussed the Stache, and he summed up the decision to go with 29+ wheels by saying ‘if you’re the type of rider willing to take a small weight penalty for a lot of extra control and traction, and the ability to run low pressures, we came out with the 29+ to be superior.’Ģ9+ wheels with 3” tyres must be heavy right?Īt first glance, you would presume that the Bontrager Chupacabra tyres would weigh significantly more than regular tyres, however, one of the key aims of the Stache project (which was entitled ‘project weird’) was to create a lightweight 29×3.00 tyre. While the Stache is never going to feel like a dual suspension bike in choppy terrain, setting up the monstrous Chupacabra tyres tubeless and with the pressures low the bike has excellent small bump compliance. The second advantage of 29+ tyres is the small bump sensitivity that can be achieved by running the voluminous tyres at lower pressures. Firstly, with a bigger contact patch you’ve got more grip on the ground in virtually any condition than a goanna scaling a tree. There have only ever been one other 29+ bike make its way to the masses, we reviewed the Surly Krampus a few years ago, while we loved its endless traction it was hard work to manoeuvre through any form of a tight corner and was a boat to try and rip through singletrack.Īn increased contact patch is beneficial in two main ways. 29+ wheels are huge, too big to fit into a normal shaped frame, hence the wildly asymmetrical rear end of the bike and its elevated chainstay arrangement. Not sure what we are talking about? Here, have a read of this if you’d like to know what a plus-size bike is all about.Įssentially, Trek developed the Stache around 29+ wheels due to the increased contact patch of the tyre when compared to 27.5+, but it wasn’t going to be so simple. When Trek decided to create a bike in the ‘plus hardtail’ category, they developed the Stache from the ground up using 29″ diameter wheels, instead of jumping on the existing 27.5+ wheel (27.5″ diameter with 2.8-3″ tyres) size bandwagon. The Trek Stache, with its big, balloon-like wheels. Expensive for a hardtail with mid-range spec. I still consider myself a Traditionalist, and woudnt agree on Gorill Glue,Polyurethane/Nitrocellulose finish, but a Better compromise such as a Water Based Finish, though not as Durable as a Polyurethane would be good enough for me.as i am also concerned about the Luthiers Health, and like Patrick said,Water Based Lacquer can be applid very thin like Shellac, without a Costly Spray booth-but giving protection as much as a Nitro finish.Ĭhange is Inevitable, and those who dont change get left Behind. And though Shellac is still the First choice for fine furniture,as it has been for centuries.dont you all think with all the Modern Developments in Finish-one should look at the Various Options, rather than Just Living in the Past?. No matter what people say on this forum about SHELLAC,it just is not Durable, even slightly so.Allan had a Hard time with his Marin, fully Shellacked only to buy a Cervantes with top only Shellacked, and many other people on this forum-might have experienced it so.Imagine what would happen in a Super hot country like India, the finish would not even pass a few weeks.if you havent experienced the summer here, then you will never will imagine, what can happen.įor those who Prefer Shellac Still.I have no Argument.Only Happy for your Choice. spend few hundered dollars, getting their Guitar a Facelift ever1-2Years,its not cheap or DURABLE and the sound were to be compromised with Lacquer than I beleve Eric sahlin,Robert ruck,Giachino Giussani,Kevin Aram,Michael Gee,Ramirez Kohno,Lester de Voe.would have gone out of Business long ago.but they are all World Class Luthiers now arent they? I was prompted to ask this question by Rounie's thread about guitar finishes. Thanks for putting it in Motion,a lot of luthiers i know have moved away for Full french polish to only Top Polish.Because the Fact is that Not Everyone can Baby their Guitar,or as someone had Mentioned here. That having A French Polished guitar with Shellac is Like Maintaing a Mistress. I had to go lie down for a couple of hours and I only read the instructions! It's very helpful for someone just starting making guitars. Here is my finishing technique using KTM-9: Once buffed, it looks very nearly as good as nitrocellulose. I apply it with a foam brush and once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy going. It's a waterbased lacquer made especially for guitars (available at LMI). Patmguitars wrote:I use a product called KTM-9. I have now started to recommend it (for the back and sides) to my client over French Polishing. It is easy to apply, doesn't require any special setup and can even be done on your kitchen table if you have to. KTM-9 is a perfect alternative for those who do not want to use nitrocellulose, for whichever reason. It makes the whole thing shine like a mirror. Step 11: I apply a coat of Nu Finish, a car finishing product. I only use the super fine buffing compound. Step 10 : I buff using the Stew-Mac foam pad, the one that you attach to a power drill. BTW, even at that level I alway go with the grain, never sideways or in circles. By that time, the finish is pretty shiny and there shouldn't be too many sanding marks left. Step 9: Using wet or dry paper, I start with 400 grit (with water and a bit of dish soap), then 600, 8, then switch to micromesh and work my way up from 1800 to 12000 (I normally skip the 3600) to polish the finish. Step 8: I let the finish dry for at least 7 days, but often 10 days or more (until I judge that the French Polish on the soundboard is ready.) Once again, a couple of hours wait between each coats. I don't want to create more bumps so the cloth is barely filled with KTM-9. Step 7: Using a soft cloth, I apply another 8-10 very thin coats, barely wetting the finish. At this stage, I want to create an even surface without sanding through the finish (beware of edges!). Step 6: after 48 hours of drying time, I level the finish with 220 grit sandpaper. If you think it's a little too thin, go for another 3 coats, sanding down with 400 between each 3 coats. I then repeat steps 4 for a total of 9 coats. The aim is to get rid of big bumps, drip lines (if any) and air bubbles. Step 5: I sand down lightly using 400 grit. I let it dry for about 2 hours and add another coat, and then another coat 2 hours later. Step 4: a fairly generous coat of KTM-9 (but not so much that it starts to drip) using the foam brush. Step 3: sanding down filler using 220 grit, then a sealer coat of shellac Step 2: pore filling (I use a micro-beads filler on Rosewood and pumice on Maple) Their everyday use is on a steady decline, as it is much more convenient to cut fire wood using a imported steel axes or machetes. The shape and manufacture of these adzes is similar to those found from the Neolithic stone age in Europe. It is then fixed to a natural grown angled wood with resin and plant fibers. The hardstone is ground on a riverine rock with the help of water until it has got the desired shape. Ground stone adzes are still in use by a variety of people in Irian Jaya (Indonesia), Papua New Guinea and some of the smaller Islands of Melanesia and Micronesia. Final surfacing is sometimes performed with a crooked knife. Where larger Northwest adzes are similar in size to their European counterparts, the smaller sizes are typically much lighter such that they can be used for the detailed smoothing, shaping and surface texturing required for figure carving. As with European adzes, iron shapes include straight, gutter and lipped. Northwest coast adzes are often classified by size and iron shape vs. The D-handle therefore provides no mechanical leverage. The second form is the D-handle adze which is basically an adze iron with a directly-attached handle. Modern hafts are sometimes constructed from a sawed blank with a dowel added for strength at the crook. The thin end is used as the handle and the thick end is flattened and notched such that an adze iron can be lashed to it. The hafted form is similar in form to a European adze with the haft constructed from a natural crooked branch which approximately forms a 60% angle. Northwest coast adzes take two forms: hafted and D-handle. Northwest Coast AmericaĪmerican Northwest coast native peoples traditionally used adzes for both functional construction (from bowls to canoes) and art (from masks to totem poles). At the same time on Henderson Island, a small coral island in eastern Polynesia lacking any rock other than limestone, natives may have fashioned giant clamshells into adzes. Prehistoric Māori adzes from New Zealand, used for wood carving, were made from nephrite, also known as jade. To this day, iron adzes are used all over rural Africa for various purposes - from digging pit latrines, and chopping firewood, to tilling crop fields - whether they are of maize (corn), coffee, tea, pyrethrum, beans, millett, yams or a plethora of other cash and subsistence crops. Īs iron-age technology moved south into Africa with migrating ancient Egyptians, they carried their technology with them, including adzes. It was apparently the foreleg of a freshly sacrificed bull or cow with which the mouth was touched. The ahnetjer ( Manuel de Codage transliteration: aH-nTr) depicted as an adze-like instrument, was used in the Opening of the Mouth ceremony, intended to convey power over their senses to statues and mummies. Examples of Egyptian adzes can be found in museums and on the Petrie Museum website.Ī depiction of an adze was also used as a hieroglyph, representing the consonants stp, "chosen", and used as. While stone blades were fastened to the wooden handle by tying, metal blades had sockets into which the handle was fitted. Originally the adze blades were made of stone, but already in the Predynastic Period copper adzes had all but replaced those made of flint. The adze is shown in ancient Egypt from the Old Kingdom onward. Adzes were also made and used by prehistoric southeast Asian cultures, especially in the Mekong River basin. Shoe-last adzes or celts, named for their typical shape, are found in the Linear Pottery and Rössen cultures of the early Neolithic. Polished adzes and axes made of ground stone, such as amphibolite, basalt or Jadeite are typical for the Neolithic period. In central Europe, adzes made by knapping flint are known from the late Mesolithic onwards (" Scheibenbeile").
